Artificial Intelligence’s Impact on Persons With Disabilities in Africa
2026
This scoping study examines how AI can advance disability inclusion across Africa, focusing on Ghana, Kenya, and Rwanda. While AI-powered tools like sign-language avatars and adaptive learning show promise, most remain small-scale. Key bottlenecks include a "disability data desert," fragmented innovation ecosystems, and exclusionary governance. Success requires "inclusion by design," mandated accessibility policies, and sustainable delivery to transform pilots into equitable, reliable systems.
